What is Trick Or Turn?

Trick or Turn is a fusion of Halloween Trick Or Treating and a driven Escape Room. You are given a set of directions to follow in your car or bike and follow them around your neighborhood or town to the creepiest, spookiest destinations. However there is a twist! Giving directions out is too easy - we don't want any of the spooky creatures that go bump in the night to follow you home - so we hid all the directions in a series of puzzles, riddles, codes, and other deviously clever mini mysteries you need to solve with clues you pick up along the way - IF you are still on the right path! Hence the name - Is this a TRICK or do we TURN?

What do you need to play?

Playing is fun, free, and easy, and a great activity for anyone from Pi to Three cubed times eleven years old! You will need a way for your team to travel together - like a hovercraft, conestoga wagon or car. Groups from two to five work great. As long as you have one person dedicated to driving and at least one dedicated to looking for clues and reading the directions and puzzles.

Can I create my own?

Yes! Please do - we strongly encourage that because YOU are the local expert for YOUR neighborhood or town. You know where the coolest, creepiest, spookiest places are that you can SAFELY send people to and get them back in one piece. People who do great yard displays or haunted houses are great places to go - abandoned real deadly mines are bad places to send people. Don't do that!

How do I start?

You came to the right place! This page is dedicated to helping you organize and set up your Trick Or Turn event, share tips, get ideas on puzzles, and all that kind of administrative work.

There is another Trick Or Turn page dedicated to publicly sharing and promoting your event after it is built and tested. We don't want just anybody snooping in here and finding clues to all the puzzles! So think of this group as the back office and the other page as the front of the store where customers come in.

Adding QR Codes to your game

Just had another clue idea - Use a QR code at a stopping point or along the route.

A QR code looks like a bunch of random dots or squares to humans, but an app on your mobile device or phone can read it and take you to a web page. This is great if you want to post signs up that won't give away the answers if you were to just happen to drive past them, but players will know what to do!

You can use the QR code to link to an online puzzle/clue/hint, or use it just past a driving direction choice (left/right/straight) to confirm the correct or incorrect choice.

There are free sites that let you build custom QR codes that you can link to a web page. Then just download the code, print it as a full page image, and find a safe place to post it.

Here is one such site:

I have created a few generic QR Codes for anyone to use. They get the point across with simple animations to let people know where to start and if they are on the right path or not after making a choice. You can use them for the following situations:
